Home Organizing Endeavours: Five Excellent Reasons to Get Rid of Your Stuff

1

“Eliminate the clutter and all the things that are going on outside and focus on the things that you can control with how you sort of go about and take care of your business. That is something that is ongoing, and it can never change.” –Nick Saban

On the surface, purging your homes from things you no longer need, want or use might seem like a daunting endeavour.

“What if I am going to need it someday?”

“But Aunt Mary gave it to me, why should I throw it away?”

“What is the purpose of throwing it away? I have enough storage space as it is”

These are just some of the reasons that tend to hold back homeowners from getting rid of their unwanted and unusable items. Some of the reasons for your resistance in eliminating these items would either stem from sentimentality, nostalgia or you just want to have it around to see if you will eventually need it in the future. But the truth is, you are just clinging on to junk and if you do not get rid of them anytime soon, then you will likely end up in a living space so cramped and stifling that it would incite feelings of anxiety whenever you come home. More importantly, your insistence in keeping these things will keep you from having better things solely because you no longer have enough space to store them. In this regard, clearing the clutter and organizing your homes should be an annual practice—an annual habit if you may. However, if you find yourself being unable to start or lacking the right motivation to do it, this article might just help you get things going. Perhaps revisiting the reasons for decluttering and organizing your home might help you kick start your goal into having a better organized and cleaner home.

In any case, whether you are living in a unit in Ardia Vermosa or elsewhere, here are some of the excellent reasons why you should definitely declutter your homes:

Enjoy more free time

Having a clutter-free home will inevitably lead to significantly less cleaning time. After al, you would no longer need to organize the items day after day just so you can clean the area beneath them or the area they are stored in. More importantly, living with less stuff makes it a lot easier to find items when you need it which means less time is wasted looking for items you might have misplaced. Having fewer household belongings would ultimately make your home better and more manageable to clean.

Spend less money

A clutter-free space means having no worries about where to store your belongings. In general, it redounds to a significantly lower monthly expense as you would not have to worry about buying more organizing tools, storage containers and the like just to have somewhere to put all of those extra items. When you are conscious about maintaining a clutter-free home, you may even potentially spend less on your home—especially when you decide that you do not need all the extra space after clearing the clutter.

Feel more calm

A cluttered living space can feel overwhelmingly confusing. As times, it can even be stifling and suffocating insomuch that it becomes almost unbearable to be there. However, a room with less stuff will feel warm, inviting and serene. More importantly, it gives you room to breathe and so much more. Overstuffing homes would only invite stressful emotions and anxiety. So ensure that your surfaces are devoid of stuff and clear it from material goods. Give yourself the gift of being calm and serene.

Always have something to wear

Having an overstuffed closet can lead you to being indecisive about your daily ensembles. While you have a wider array in clothing selection, there is a likely chance you would not be able to see them all as you have kept and stuffed them in the drawers and corners of your closet. In this regard, you are left with the paradox of having a full closet without having to wear. With this in mind, you ought to start purging your closet from clothes that no longer serve you well. This includes clothes that no longer fit you, old clothes and clothes you have not even worn in the past year. In this way, you would be able to see your clothing selections better. Paring down your wardrobe and filling it only with the things you love will make you look forward to dressing up each morning instead of dreading it.

Get better sleep

Having way too much going on in a room distracts you from getting any decent sleep. More importantly, sleeping in a cluttered room leads to stressful mornings. Clear your bedroom from all the unwanted items it currently has to help you get some quality shut-eye. After all, your home should be a safe haven where you can clear your mind from worries and stress. if it is in a perpetual state of disarray, there is a likely chance that it is only going to heighten and aggravate your negative feelings instead of nullifying it.

Better Homes: Four Home Organization Resolutions to Usher 2019 with a Bang

minimalist-organization

“Being organized is not about getting rid of everything you own or trying to become a different person; it is about living the way you want to live, but better.”-Andrew Mellen

Benjamin Franklin once said that for every minute spent in organizing, an hour is earned. This is because any aspect on your life that is organized—whether it may be your life itself or your home—will effectively allow you to streamline your activities and tasks in such a way that you would be able to expedite them.

In this regard, homeowners ought to make some home organization resolutions for the New Year to get rid of the clutter, clean up and organize their homes. As a result, the prospect of being welcomed home to a spruced up pad would be so much brighter for the next 365 days. With this in mind, we ought not to waste any more time and get started on that home resolution list—especially as the brand new year is still in its inception. Unfortunately, humans as we are, resolutions tend to be a little challenging to maintain after a significant time has passed. Much like your resolve to commit to a daily workout, your New Year resolutions in keeping a spotless and clutter-free home can potentially get waylaid by random bouts of lethargy (or just general laziness on your part).

To prevent this from occurring, remind yourself why you started in the first place. There may be more to life that constantly having to clean and organize your homes but remember that your life would be so much easier if you maintained one. With an organized home—whether that may be a residential flat or a condominium in Pasig, you can expect less stress and more comfort. Now, is that not what you would want to welcome you home every single day for the entire year? In any case, strengthen your resolve and tap into that New Year motivation, kick your cleaning habits into gear and commit to making these home organization resolutions not only for the New Year, but for the entire year.

Put everything in its place

There is a saying that everything has a place and that there is a place for everything. However, when it comes to organized homes, only the former sentiment should apply. Every single household item should have its designated place and it is your responsibility to ensure that they are appropriately utilized. A home cannot truly be organized if household objects are in disarray or do not have homes. Designate a spot for everything and commit to keeping it there. If you find your homes lacking in storage space, then commit to expanding it by investing on storage items that help you keep everything away from sight (and from adding to the clutter).

Stick to the 90/90 rule

To ensure that your home does not become a magnet for clutter, stick by the 90/90 rule as popularized by minimalists. In sum, the rule’s premise is to throw out anything that you have not used in ninety days and do not see yourself using for the next ninety. If you wish, you might even adjust your time limit (either shorten or lengthen it). Just stick to a timeline that is realistic to you and stick to it. This rule would help you mitigate the possibility of holding on to things that you no longer need (and might never need again). More importantly, any decision that takes the guesswork out of the equation is easily made than those that need deeper contemplation. In any case, if you think this is going to be a hard rule to abide by, just trust us when we say that if you have not used it in a significant amount of time, you are probably not going to miss it when you throw it out.

Remember: “One in, one out”

This rule basically means that if something new comes to your home, it should be to replace something and not to add to the clutter. For optimum effect, universally apply this rule to all of your things—from your clothes to your kitchen cutlery and gadgets. Do not hold on to anything if you are buying anything new. If you cannot see yourself letting go of some old stuff you have, then you should not be buying anything new. Similarly, you should encourage your kids to donate toys they no longer want and clothes they have outgrown. Kids can quickly outgrow their clothes which would prompt you to new ones. In this regard, discard the old items and give them away as holding on to them would only be counterintuitive to your endeavor.

Make a commitment

A literal “clean slate” promise if you may. Even if it takes extra effort on your part (such as going to bed twenty minutes later than usual), make it a point to spruce up the house every single day before you wrap up the night. Do not procrastinate and wait until the morning to do it as that is how you end up with a disorganized home. It might prove to be a slog, but it can be rewarding. More importantly, the more you do it, the better you will be at cleaning which would effectively reduce the cleaning time you require each night. By cleaning up each day, you can start each morning fresh without a deficit in organization and cleanliness.

5 Things at Home You Didn’t Know You Could Fix Yourself

“Often what’s wrong with some modernist houses – they’re kept vacuum-sealed all the way through. And then people wonder why they haven’t any atmosphere.” – John Stefanidis

We all hate damages. Especially when your favorite thing is broken, we feel like we have already lost a very important thing in our life. Whether you like it or not, damages at home are inevitable. One of the reasons is probably because you consistently used that particular thing. It does not matter if you lived in a condo for rent in Bonifacio Global City or any condominiums in the Philippines, you will find damages at home.

But just because might notice some damages, that does not mean that it is going to be a big deal. There are a lot of damages where you can fix it yourself. You do not need to call a professional just to fix it for you. Keep in mind that some damages may be simple enough for you to mend it. To give you an idea, we list down some things you have at home where you can fix yourself.

1. Uneven shower stream

If you know that there is something wrong with the shower, then you should check behind the shower’s handle. There is a valve that is responsible for correctly mixing hot and cold water, and kept the pressure consistent. But before you do the fixing, make sure to shut off the water to the shower, then you can now remove the screws holding the handle through the use of plier and the trim plate on. After, install a replacement pressure to balance the cartridge.

2. Toilet bowl scratches

This is also one of the many things at home where you can fix it yourself. If there are any bowl scratches or anything that keeps the bowl from flushing, then you can clear it with a drain snake. Scrubbing the marks with kitchen scouring pad is also another thing you can use to fix the toilet.

3. Sluggish vent-hood suction

When you have poor suction in your kitchen sink, then you probably need to replace the motor. But before you start fixing, always remember to shut the power to the hood and remove any filters. You also need to pull out the fan blade and find the motor’s wiring harness. Unclip it and unscrew the motor from its blanket. And then attached the replacement motor and reconnected the harness before you install the fan blade again.

4. Dripping dishwasher

This is one thing that we hate whenever it is damaged. Keep in mind that constant use of the dishwasher, the thick rubber gasket along the edge of the tub can also become brittle. That is why, it is important for you to examine the gasket and gently pull it out and reseat it into the tub, and then run the dishwasher. However, if the dishwasher is still leaking, then you should get a replacement gasket and install it in the same way.

5. Slow dryer

It is a must for a dryer to have a proper airflow to finish a load of clothing. However, if your dryer is not working, then this might not a start to wash your clothes. To fix it, you need to remove the front panel and housing cover and unhook the door switch’s wires. Behind that is the blower wheel, remove it from the motor shaft with snap ring pliers. You then need to slide the new wheel in place and test that if it spins by hand. If it does, then you have to reassemble the dryer back to its form.

Home Cleaning Tips: How to Dust Effectively

qom-dust-1

If you think you did the right thing when dusting, then you better think again. Dusting is not just about removing the dirt out from your furniture. When it is not properly done, then this might be a risk to your health, especially for those asthmatics. This will also leave more work for you to do when dusting without any proper guide on how to do such. Yes, dusting may be a simple task, but there are certain things you need to know before you start dusting. This is for you to make sure you are doing the right thing and not just for the sake of it.

Dust is everywhere, even if you are living in a real estate Cebu. It can be on your furniture, window, floor, under your bed and things around inside your home – name it, it all collect dust. You may whisk it away during the weekends. And for the following days, your furniture and other things at home are dust-covered all over again. It is actually a cycle. That is why dusting should be taken seriously to make sure that it won’t pose a risk of our lives. However, not all homeowners grasp the importance of knowing such. But before anything else, here are the things you need to know before you start dusting.

Use the right tools

One of the common tools we usually used is the feather duster. Right? It is handy and easy to use. However, do you know that it is not advisable to use feather duster when dusting? Yes, this tool might remove some dust, but it is not that effective enough to clean your furniture. It only spread the dust from one surface to another. In order for you to clean it properly, use a microfiber cloth that attracts dust particles. With this, you can make sure that the surface will leave no dust. Moreover, to ensure that the cloth will continue to pick up the dust, wash or replace them when they get dirty.

Use dusting spray

Using of spray is one of the things that helps clean the dust. However, you must be careful on where you spray. Don’t spray it on the furniture, but on your microfiber cloth. Spraying it on your furniture or any other things at home may become grimy and can attract even more dust instead. Moreover, to make sure that the dust won’t stay on the surface, lift the cloth away from the shelves and furniture. The spray will help the cloth hold onto the dust.

Dust first, then vacuum

Always remember that not all dust can be seen. That is why don’t just dust the furniture and other things at home. Make sure that you don’t drop the dust on the floor to prevent you from doing, even more, work. Then before you do some vacuum, you also have to make sure to change or wash the filter on your vacuum cleaner so it does not release dust back into your room. Don’t forget to vacuum the corners of ever furniture in your home that are beyond your reach for you to dust.

Don’t forget the vents

This is one important thing you need to remember. Never forget the vents. If not taken care of, this can be one of the reasons why the dust in your room or home is all over the place. Heating and air conditioning vents are one the things that are known for blowing dust and allergens into the air. And if this happens, you might not like inhaling it, especially when you have asthma. Clean your vents regularly to keep them clean to reduce the amount of dust in your home.

See? A lot of us may have thought that they are already doing the right thing when it comes to dusting. But knowing these things above will help you change your routine and have a better and healthy lifestyle. Who would want to go back to their old cleaning habits when they know it is not the right thing to do, which can also cause risk to our health? Right? Yes, these tips above may be easy. But it is always up to you on how you do an effective dusting in your home.
